Our home is designed to minimise confusion

Specialist Dementia Care

Carefully looking after sometimes emotionally vulnerable residents.

Charles Suite decor
Residents with dementia can feel emotionally vulnerable and communication is often difficult. All our care staff are highly trained to deal with the complex and sensitive needs of  individuals living with dementia.

The dedicated Charles Suite (dementia care unit) offers comfortable surroundings, comprises sixteen beds and adopts a resident-centred approach to care by encouraging individual strengths and the promotion of independence. The clean open-plan environment has easy to walk non-slip flooring and wide doorways for wheelchair access and hoist assists. All private rooms, facilities and lounge areas are clearly signposted throughout the home to minimise confusion for dementia residents. A combination of beautiful soft furnishings, furniture, lighting, and wallpaper, help to make the Charles Suite feel like a true home from home.

Personal belongings are welcome in private rooms to help maintain a sense of familiarity. Routines are preserved whenever possible and individual wishes are respected.

Residents from the Charles Suite often join residents from our other two units to participate in an exercise session, a craft session, or simply to enjoy listening to a singer. Some activities are adapted for the residents from Charles Suite, which ensures confidence and that dignity is promoted at all times.

Residents can talk to staff in confidence about any concerns they might have and their opinions will always be considered as part of any decision making process.
